Safety of Students
Student Injury or Illness

Although faculty and staff understand about absences due to illness and injury, it is often difficult to contact everyone involved with the student’s campus life when a situation such as a major illness occurs. The staff in the Office of Student Life can provide professors and supervisors with electronic or written letters notifying them of the student’s absence.  However, our office may require supporting documentation (e.g., a doctor’s note, letter from primary care provider) to verify your student’s illness or injury.

In cases where the illness or injury requires a significant number of absences from classes, medical withdrawal or cancellation of registration may be necessary. The staff in the Office of Student Life can explore these options with the student and can facilitate the process of withdrawal/cancellation and work with the student upon his/her return to the UTEP community.  Medical or mental health withdrawals/cancellations are handled by Student Business Services.
