The Student Development Center and Women’s Resource Center invite you to support the Rainbow Miner Initiative. The ultimate mission of the Rainbow Miner Initiative is to create an environment at UTEP that embraces individual difference, sustains inclusion, and cultivates a campus that is free from bias. Our vision and inspiration for this initiative is to ensure the UTEP campus is welcoming and inviting for all students, faculty, administration, and staff, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. We hope to fulfill these goals through advocacy, community building, and education. The Rainbow Miner symbolizes a safe space for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) community and their allies; an environment free of judgment, bias, and discrimination.
Your participation in displaying the Rainbow Miner symbol is a step in this direction. Displaying the Rainbow Miner symbol in your office window, door, and/or desk signifies:
- That your organization/office is a welcoming space for LGBTQ community members.
- That you are committed to promoting an environment free from hatred and discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
- That homophobia and transphobia are not acceptable at your organization or in your programs.
- That you empower everyone to be authentic.
Discrimination based on sexual orientation is prohibited by UTEP’s Equal Opportunity policy. For more information about this policy, including complaint resolution options, contact the Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Office at 747-5662 or eoaa@utep.edu.
