Buying a Car

As a UTEP student you have several options for transportation. You may use the public transportation system, share rides with friends, or drive your own vehicle. While you are in college, you may reach a time when you decide to purchase a vehicle. Buying a car can be exciting and overwhelming.

A word of advice – take it slow. Keep your financial plans and education goals in sharp focus and don’t let the shiny gleam and rumbling motor of a new car sidetrack you. Be wise about your purchase, plan ahead, do your homework, and be realistic about what you can afford. Remember that buying a car while you are in college is just a means of transportation. After you graduate from college, you will have many other opportunities to upgrade.

Work through the selection and financing process slowly. Use many resources to determine the best purchase opportunity considering the benefits of the vehicle and the financing options. Don’t fall victim to scams and pressure. Talk with your family and others and take time to review several resources. The following resources will get you started.
