Thursday, October 15 at 6 PM, Union East, Tomas Rivera Conference Center Room 308
Growing up in the fashion industry, Yomi became the first British African face of Maybelline cosmetics worldwide while pursuing her undergraduate degree. She shares her experience of being a college student portraying the face of an international cosmetics brand, while undergoing a reflective, yet often daunting negotiation of her own self-image. Through her introspective and thought-provoking presentations, Yomi helps individuals to deconstruct the ideas that are projected by the media. She encourages participants to create a “personal image” that is empowering and defined by self, and explores the benefits of doing so in today’s society. Yomi shares specific strategies for looking inward, and channeling our inner diversities and life experiences to cultivate a strong sense of self and find our distinct, competitive edges that will help us in an increasingly competitive and globalizing world.
