Counseling and Psychological Services services are confidential. In general, the privacy of all communications between a counselor and a client are protected by law. Counseling and Psychological Services can only release information about your treatment to others with your written permission. However, there are a few exceptions. These special circumstances are:
Counseling and Psychological Services staff would like you to know that Counseling and Psychological Services cannot guarantee the confidentiality of communications transmitted via e-mail and cellular phone. It is recommended that you contact the Center via land-line telephone, U.S. Mail, or in person when you are in need of discussing private information.
This written summary of exceptions to confidentiality should prove helpful in informing you about potential problems. However, if you have questions or concerns, please discuss them with a CAPS counselor.
