The University Counseling Center services are confidential. In general, the privacy of all communications between a counselor and a client are protected by law. The University Counseling Center can only release information about your treatment to others with your written permission. However, there are a few exceptions. These special circumstances are:
The Counseling Center staff would like you to know that the University Counseling Center cannot guarantee the confidentiality of communications transmitted via e-mail and cellular phone. It is recommended that you contact the Center via land-line telephone, U.S. Mail, or in person when you are in need of discussing private information.
This written summary of exceptions to confidentiality should prove helpful in informing you about potential problems. However, if you have questions or concerns, please discuss them with a UCC counselor.
