The UTEP Center for Accommodations and Support Services (CASS) provides services during all major graduation ceremonies for students and members of the community with disabilities that attend these events.
Nominations are now open for the CASS Opportunity and Challenge Awards.
Nominations are requested by July 31st.
The recognition awards will be presented during the opening session of the 2016 Ability Awareness Week activities on Monday, October 3rd, 8:30 – 11 am in the Tomas Rivera Conference Center.
Evacuation chairs are used when there is a fire or other reason for the electricity to go out in a building. Those that are mobile can evacuate the building by walking down the stairs. If a person that uses a wheelchair is stranded on an upper level, they can be moved into an evacuation chair, which will be used on the stairs to evacuate them from the building. Their wheelchair might be lost in the fire, but their life will be saved.
